Bedford Rugby Followers Association

6 November 2021

I'd like to give a big welcome today to the players and supporters of Jersey Reds. What great commitment from those that have made the long journey during the festive season. As well as being one of my favourite places to visit, the jersey supporters themselves have always made us Blues hordes most welcome. Let's show them all a great time with some good old Blues hospitality.
They are having a good season thus far and sit close to the top of the league. Today should be a tight match, in front of our usual large and passionate Boxing Day crowd.
Well, what is there to say about the London Scottish home game? We started off superbly, racing into a 19-0 lead showing how rugby is played the “Bedford way”. Scottish grabbed a try before half time to take us into the break at 19-7, but with the slope in our favour for the second half optimism was rife. As it happened, the weather deteriorated, and Scottish fought back to level at 19-19. However, forget the speedy backs’ moves; to win the match came a rolling maul, roared on by the Goldington Road crowd. All this watched by a 2,000 plus crowd, twice as big as any other in the Championship on a cold and wet day. Well done Blues fans!!
Our next away trip is to Doncaster on New Year's Day. What could be a better way to look after those sell imposed NYE hangovers than by spending an enjoyable trip on the Followers coach? A couple of beers, the famous Followers raffle, and a sweepstake as well. On top of that a chance to sample the Doncaster cow pie. All for the princely sum of £26. Departs Bedford at 10.30am.
Also during January, we make one of our two trips to the RAG in London, this time to play Richmond. Cost and departure time to be confirmed
As we move into the New Year of 2022 our first social event of the season is being organised. On the 11th February 2022 our ever popular Annual Quiz Night will take place. Please put the date in your diary. More details to follow.
For all away matches, please book via Margaret Appleton in the Followers Office, telephone 01234 354708, or email: Details of away trips can also be found on our website
Enjoy the match. I hope Christmas is going well and that you are all keeping safe and healthy.
